At the beginning of the 20th century, a man achieved world renown when he preformed an archaelogical miracle in th Near East - despite the fact that he was actually a diplomat: Max Freiherr von Oppenheim. His discovery of the ancient hill-top settlement of Tell Halaf shed major new light on the ancient civilisation of the Assyrian Empire, which had been thought lost. Yet Max von Oppenheim deserves to be regarded as more than just the most significant arcaeologit of the Near East og the 20h century - the Tell Halaf Museum in Berlin, which he established, and the foundation associated with it, made Oppenheim a true patron of culture, a man whose achievements bridged the gap between East and West. Montblanc is honouring this unique archaeologist, resercher, collector and patron of Eastern cultures with a fascinating edition of writing instruments: the Limited Edition Max Freiherr von Oppenheim. |
